Something For The Weekend 21/01/23

The weather has been playing havoc with horse racing this week but the all-weather has kept the show on the road. Hopefully with milder weather forecast, things can improve and we won’t lose too many football games at the lower levels this weekend.

The NFL season hits the second round of the playoffs with four outstanding looking games in prospect. BetConnect has all the action you need for the weekend ahead. *All prices correct at time of writing on Thursday afternoon.

Horse Racing

3.17 Taunton – Frodon @ 6/5

A race that Paul Nicholls and Bryony Frost have won for the last three runnings with Yala Enki. Frodon has to prove his stamina for a new trip here but he stays three and a quarter miles fine and this is a sharp track. He’s a simple point and shoot type. That should make him a very hard horse to pass at this course.

Football

Leeds V Brentford – Sunday 2pm – Over 3.5 goals @ 9/5, Over 4.5 goals @ 22/5 & Correct Score 3-3 @ 50/1

It was a 5-2 Brentford win in the reverse fixture back in September and goals are expected again. Leeds beat Bournemouth 4-3 at Elland Road, lost 3-2 to Fulham and drew West Ham 2-2. Brentford have shipped 5 at Newcastle and 4 at Villa. They lost 3-2 at Fulham as well as drawing 2-2 at Leicester and Forest. Everything about this screams goals so we’ll nail our colours to the mast in a single game.

NFL

Jaguars @ Chiefs – Saturday 9.30pmPatrick Maholmes ATS @ 11/4

The Jaguars head to Kansas to take on the Chiefs in the first of the four playoff games. The Chiefs beat the Jaguars 27-17 when they met in week 10, though the Jaguars are much improved since then. In the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and the Giants’ Daniel Jones, the Jags gave up a couple of touchdowns to mobile quarterbacks this season.

Patrick Mahomes is a similar type and while he’d prefer to use his arm than his legs, Mahomes to score a TD at 11/4 is interesting. Mahomes rushed for 4 TD’s in his last 10 games of the regular season and in a game where every yard will prove crucial, he can add to that.

Giants @ Eagles – Sunday 1.15am Daniel Jones ATS @ 5/2

There could be a similar story here with a quarterback getting himself a touchdown. In the two games between two teams this season, the Giants QB has scored, with Daniel Jones looking to extend that sequence in the playoffs. He scored 7 TD’s during the regular season and was mobile in the win over the Vikings last week. 5/2 for Daniel Jones to rush for one again here looks a solid price.
